Overview

Myanmar has many places that remains undiscovered by the world. Beautiful scenery of the remote hills of Kyaing Tong alongside the hill tribes that lives there makes for the perfect place for a cultural excursion. Discovering the ways of life through community based tourism and the untouched sceneries of the country will make this trip one to remember for a lifetime.

DAY 01

Arrival Yangon

Welcome at Yangon International Airport. Transfer and check in at the hotel. Orientation tour Yangon if time permits. Visit the colonial area, Sule Pagoda – the landmark of Yangon City Centre, Chaukhtatgyi Reclining Buddha Image. Finally, visit Shwedagon Pagoda- one of the wonders of the world. Overnight in Yangon.

DAY 02

Yangon - Kyaikthalae Village

Pick up at hotel and transfer to Nanthida Jetty to take the ferry boat and cross Yangon River to next bank, called Dala. One can enjoy, the river life and observe of ways of life of local people during short cruise. Take taxi van to Kyaikthale village by enjoying countryside.
On arrival in to Kyaikthalae village, this morning guests will receive a warm welcome at the community lodge. A talk will then be provided by the community leader to explain more about the village and the people the project currently supports. This will be followed by lunch and an exploration of the village. This will be a great opportunity to learn about local industry, including bamboo basket weaving and sewing. Dinner will be provided at the community lodge. Accommodation at Community Lodge.

DAY 03

Kyaikthalae Village - Yangon

Start the day with by making a food offering to the local monks as they go about collecting their alms. After carrying out your day’s “good deed”, we will then return to the Community Lodge for breakfast. Shortly after, we will explore the fields of the local farming community to learn about the creation of natural fertilizer, the cultivation of crops and poultry farming. Assuming you’ve worked up an appetite, we will then enjoy a Myanmar cooking class, using some of the produce sourced from the field. For those we do not wish to join this, or have not worked up an appetite, it will be possible to take part in a tree planting initiative. Lunch will be served at the village.
After lunch you can drive to the Phayargyi, where it will be possible to learn about traditional pottery making techniques at the long village’s 15thcentury kiln site. Should you wish, we will later stop off at the Mingalar monastic school to greet the children. During your visit, it will be possible for you to hand over the vegetables sourced from the bio-garden to make sure they enjoy a nutritious meal. On the way to Twante, it is possible to stop off at the century old Hindu temple at San Village. If you are still keen to learn even more about traditional pottery making techniques, the Twante pottery village can also be visited on your way back to Yangon.
Finally drive back to Dala by Taxi Van. Upon arrival Dala, stop at Recycle Workshop of Chu Chu where one can learn the process of plastic fusion. After cleaning, plastic bags are cut in various shapes. Different layers of plastic are then fused by heat together, forming one multi-color sheet.
Chu Chu is a Yangon handicraft group dedicated to recycling. It is supported by the “Solid Waste Management (SWM2) project implemented by Cesvi, the City of Torino and the Yangon Municipality, and funded by the European Union and the Italian Cooperation.
Finally, ferry boat back to Yangon and enjoy Sunset on board and beauty of Yangon River.
Transfer to hotel and overnight.

DAY 04

Yangon - Bagan

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Bagan. Upon arrival, visit to the colorful local market, Shwezigon Pagoda – the glory of Bagan, Htilominlo Temple-the best pilaster carving, Nathtaukkyaung – monastery made of teak wood, Ananda Temple – the masterpiece of Bagan, Gubyaukgyi Temple – the best mural paintings of 11th century, Manuha Temple – huge Buddha Images, Dhamayangyi Temple – the biggest temple in Bagan, Sulamani Temple – the 12th century temple, the lacquer-ware workshop – the unique of Bagan, etc. Finally, enjoy the sunset from the sunset hill. Overnight in Bagan.

DAY 05

Bagan - Mandalay

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, transfer to Mandalay and check-in at the hotel. Boat excursion to Mingun (01 hour) along mighty Ayeyarwaddy River. During the river cruise, we may enjoy the fascinating landscapes of the river as well as the daily life of the people living along the Ayeyarwaddy. Visit Mingun pagoda – unfinished pagoda & the biggest ringing bell of 90 tons, the unusual Myatheindan pagoda. Cruise back to Mandalay and visit to the Kuthodaw Pagoda – the world biggest book, Shwenandaw (Golden Palace) Monastery. Finally enjoy the sunset on top of Mandalay Hill where we can admire the beauty of Mandalay City, Shan Plateau, etc. Overnight in Mandalay.

DAY 06

Excursion Amarapura, Sagaing & Ava

Visit to Amarapura – an ancient capital of Myanmar, where we can observe the life of over 1000 monks at Mahagandaryon Monastery & silk weaving factory. Continue to Sagaing, where we can observe the fascinating landscapes of the Ayeyarwaddy River from serene Sagaing Hill, the place of over 700 monasteries. Continue to Ava and visit by horse carts to Maenu Okkyaung Monastery – built by the chief queen in 1818, Nan Myint Tower – 27 meter masonry high, Bargayar Monastery – well known for its wood carving with 267 teak pillars. Come back to Amarpaura and enjoy the sunset by crossing Over U Bein Bridge. Overnight in Mandalay.

DAY 07

Mandalay - Heho - Kalaw

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Kalaw. Upon arrival, drive to Kalaw and leisure on your own. Overnight in Kalaw.

DAY 08

Trekking Kalaw

Start trekking about 2 and half walks to Yaw Thit Village. (8Km) (Palaung Village). On the way you can see from and tea plantation. About half hour take a rest. Then we will leave another village (Ta Yaw Village). You can walk 45minute to Palaung village (2Km).In the village you will see small school and monastery. Walking foe about 45minute to view point at Nepalese family (3Km) (Lunch break). Afternoon go back to Kalaw next 2:30 hours walk (8Km). Arrive to Kalaw about 05:00 P.M. [Remark: Total walking hours (6 and half hour) for (21Km)]. Then, Transfer to hotel and free. Overnight in Kalaw.

DAY 09

Kalaw - Pindaya (45km, 1 hour) - Inle (97km, 3 hours)

Transfer to Pindaya and on the way we may enjoy the marvelous landscapes of hilly region with vegetables plantation, terrace landing cultivation, etc. Visit the Pindaya Caves – houses 8094 Buddha Images. Then continue to Inle Lake. Transfer and check in at the hotel and overnight.

DAY 10

Excursion Inle

Visit by boat to the local tribe market if coincides, In Thein Pagodas, Lotus petal robe & silk weaving looms at Inn Paw Khone village, Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda the most venerable pagoda on the lake, Ngaphechaung monastery, etc. Overnight at Inle Lake.

DAY 11

Inle - Heho - Kyaing Tong

Transfer to the Heho Airport for flight to Kyaing Tong. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel. Walking around Naung Tong Lake. Overnight.

DAY 12

Kyaing Tong – Vanishing En Tribe Village Trek & Photo Shoot

Take the car about 45 minutes for a hiking tour into the Pin Tauk area in order to visit the villages of Akha and Enn tribes. Some are baptized, some tribes still animists.
The Enn are an ethnic group which tourists have found particularly interesting in their “Black Teeth”. The walk is not difficult and can be done slowly. They live on the higher slopes. They have distinctively different costumes and beliefs from the other tribes. Then back to Kyaing Tong. If time permits, we may observe the sunset on the one tree Hill where 245 years old Kanyin-byu (Diptero Carpus Spp) tree stands. The tree was planted by Alaungmintaya, the founder of Third Myanmar Empire. Overnight in Kyaing Tong.

DAY 13

Kyaing Tong – Rice Terraces & Various Tribes [Loimwe area]

Drive to “Akhu village” (appr. 35 minutes) 9km north-east of Kyaing Tong, and the costume of the ladies of this tribe is simple (a wide sleeved short black jacket over a sarong of horizontal red stripes on black).
Then proceed to Loimwe, (appr. 2 hours dirve) 33km away from Kyaing Tong, famous for its “misty mountain” is at an altitude of over 1600 meters above sea – level and enjoy magnificent view of the surrounding area and enjoys a temperate climate.
Many Colonial buildings and also a Catholic Church remained as a remark of British colonial. The main attraction along the way is the scenery on the ascent to Loimwe, which passes through forests, terraced rice fields. On the way to Loimwe you will have several stops to visit different villages.
Wan Lun Shan villages, walk and explore the native village life; HoLup Akha village where you can see the traditional Akha tribes with their colorful dresses; Nang Cho Wa villgae and Panwai Lahu village on the left and right side of the road. Then back to Kyaing Tong and transfer to hotel. Overnight in Kyaing Tong.

DAY 14

Kyaing Tong – Thachileik [2/3 hrs by overland]-Departure

City tour in Kyaing Tong including Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, housing Mandalay Style Buddha Image; Wat Zom Kham Temple, etc. Drive to Thachileik [border town with Thailand] and departure.
